OSM enters into technology exchange agreement with Applecross Technologies

21st June 2007

PERTH, Western Australia.  June 21st, 2007: Perth based software house, Applecross Technologies Pty Ltd. ("APTECH") today announced a technology licensing agreement with European software house, Open Systems Management Ltd. (“OSM”).  The deal sees OSM gain limited rights to APTECH’s Java-based software infrastructure, and to its website technologies, in exchange for an undisclosed sum.

Neil Chaney, CEO of Applecross Technologies said, "This licensing agreement is very much in the interests of both parties.  OSM is a long standing company with nearly twenty years of industry experience and a very strong customer base; but certain areas of its technology need updating.  Our own company is rich in modern technology but has no international exposure as yet.  This is something that OSM can provide."

Applecross Technologies was established to develop and market low cost, high quality security management software for UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows systems.  OSM is focused on the development and marketing of systems and operations management software for the same operating systems.

Chaney went on to say, "The synergies between the two companies are obvious.  We offer complementary software products to the same end user community – mid- to large-scale users of UNIX and Linux systems, with or without a Microsoft Windows element to the infrastructure."

The licensed software, which is wholly written in Java, utilizes SSH-2 as its standard communication method and can therefore be implemented as an "agentless" environment i.e. no software needs to be installed on the Managed Servers.  It runs on top of any proven JDBC/ODBC-compliant database management system and utilizes role-based access controls based on ITIL guidelines.

Chaney concluded “APTECH was founded to help end user organizations leverage best practice frameworks such as ITIL in infrastructure management, an area in which OSM is already active.  APTECH is focused on the security aspects, OSM is focused on the operations and systems administration aspects.”

Andrew Eardley, OSM’s software development manager commented, “Long established companies such as OSM are constantly having to balance new software development against sustaining engineering for its existing technologies.  Sometimes it’s useful to take a short-cut by acquiring suitable technologies.  The acquisition of a technology license from APTECH will enable us to reach some of our goals faster than we otherwise would.”
